Job Description
Summer Internship Job Description 2026
Counselors in Training (summer internship) is designed to support childcare staff in providing a clean, safe, enriching, and fun experience for summer day camp participants. This program offers youth aged 13-16 an internship experience to prepare them for future employment in a childcare setting. Youth will learn the basics of working with children and also be encouraged to develop their own skills and talents. This program is also designed to develop professional development, leadership skills, financial literacy, and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety of children while encouraging an enriching and fun experience at summer camp.
- Willingness and capability of adhering to program guidelines, which include but are not limited to:
- Ability to serve as a role model for younger program participants (i.e., appropriate language, dress, behavior, etc.)
- No cell phones or other electronic devices are to be used for personal reasons during work hours.
- Engage with the children in various activities, including recreation, arts and crafts, literacy, and field trips.
- Help serve and clean up breakfast, lunch, and snack.
- Clean up after activities in all facility spaces.
- Accompany children to the bathroom.
- Assist in special projects or responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- A commitment to North Light’s mission and role in the community
- Strong communication and people skills
- Relate well to children.
- Must be at least 13 years of age or older and entering 7th grade.
- The ability to:
- Be patient, flexible & creative in responding to new challenges.
- Work effectively with others.
- Handle multiple tasks in an often fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Submit a completed and signed application, along with the parent handbook and all relevant documents, and be willing to participate in an interview.

Work Schedule
Part Time: Monday-Friday for 6 weeks (6.29.26-8.7.26)

Compensation
Interns will receive a paid stipend.

JEVS C2L-PHL SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2026

Are you or someone you know 13-19 years old and looking for an internship this summer? North Light Community Center is partnering with JEVS Career Connected Learning (C2L) PHL to bring work-based learning experiences and career awareness this summer with an eight-week internship program at approved and certified placement sites throughout the Northwest Philadelphia area.
Applications are opening soon! Youth who are interested in applying should get involved with the Teen Services program at North Light Community Center, which includes our Teen Zone after-school program, professional development, and informational sessions regarding the internship program.
Youth who are interested should complete the Student Intake Form below and select the C2L-PHL Jev’s Summer Internship 2026 to get notified when applications open. For more information, please contact Ty Hill at thill@northlightcommunitycenter.org.

PLACEMENT PERIOD
The placement period is eight weeks, from June 22nd to August 14th, 2026.
STIPEND
JEVS C2L-PHL will provide a stipend for participants for their attendance and participation throughout the eight-week program on a bi-weekly basis.

Did you know North Light Can Issue Teen Work Permits?
Are you a minor who needs a work permit? North Light Community Center is now an eligible and approved site to issue working permits for youth ages 14-17. Contact Ty Hill to schedule an appointment and please bring your birth certificate to verify your age and date of birth. thill@northlightcommunitycenter.org
College Readiness
Philadelphia Futures has the intention of combining resources and assets in the pursuit of a common purpose – to provide low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college.
